GOP Less Popular Than Dick (Cheney)

From Greg Sargent’s “Plum Line” who notes the latest poll from the NBS/WSJ Poll (PDF!):

The poll found that 26% of respondents have a very positive or somewhat positive view of Cheney, up eight points from April. Meanwhile, it found that the GOP overall is viewed very or somewhat positively by only 25%, down four points from April.

Wasn’t there a time when the only American more despised than Dick turned out to be Paris Hilton? In March 2006, the Washington Post noted that Cheney was polling at whopping 18% approval rating.  Comparing that level of dislike – the Post decided to note people in the news that had higher approvals.  Crunching the numbers, they found that Dick Cheney was:

  • Less popular than singer Michael Jackson , bedmate of little boys and world-class screwball. One in four Americans — 25 percent — told Gallup polltakers last June they were still Jackson fans after the onetime King of Pop was found not guilty of child molesting.
  • Less popular than former football star O.J. Simpson was after his arrest and trial for murdering his estranged wife and her companion. Three in 10 — 29 percent — of all Americans had a favorable view of Simpson in an October, 1995 Gallup poll.
  • Less popular with Americans than Joseph Stalin is with Russians. In 2003, fully 20 percent said Stalin, blamed for millions of deaths in the former Soviet Union during the 1930s and 1940s, was a “wise and humane” leader. Thirty-one percent also said they wouldn’t object if Uncle Joe came back to rule again, according to surveys conducted by Russian pollsters.
  • Much less popular than former Vice President Spiro Agnew in his final days in office. Forty-five percent approved of the job that Agnew was doing as President Richard Nixon’s veep in a Gallup Poll conducted in August 1973, little more than a month before Agnew resigned and pleaded no contest to a criminal tax evasion charge arising from a bribery investigation.
  • Far less popular than former New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey days after he announced in August 2004 that he had engaged in an extramarital affair with a man and would resign. His job approval rating bumped from 43 to 45 percent.
  • But take heart, Dick. About 35 percent of those interviewed by the CBS poll didn’t offer an opinion of you. Perhaps some of your supporters were shy. And other polls released later in the week pegged your popularity considerably higher.
  • Besides, even at 18 percent you’re not the least popular public figure in America. You’re slightly better liked than that fabulously blond and brainless party girl Paris Hilton. She was viewed favorably last June by 15 percent of the public, according to Gallup.

While the poll-numbers have changed – can we assume that the bubble-headed bimbo is more popular than the GOP?!

Pray tell – when does the GOP realize that they’re going the way of the pteredactyl and the Whig Party?!

Dept of Justice Plans Meeting with “The Gays” Next Week

DOJ2After Obama’s Dept of Justice just fired off a letter to the United States Supreme Court trashing gay and lesbian couples over the issue of DOMA, (PDF!) after the Big Gay Fundraiser that the Vice President was intended to preside has all but collapsed.  Now with the call that the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Community get a “divorce” from the Democratic Party – Now… the DOJ wants to meet with us.  Now….there’s a problem and they’ve realized it.

One example in that letter:

…a new and nonsensical argument the administration has advanced suggesting that the federal government needs to be “neutral” with regard to its treatment of married same-sex couples in order to ensure that federal tax money collected from across the country not be used to assist same-sex couples duly married by their home states. There is nothing “neutral” about the federal government’s discriminatory denial of fair treatment to married same-sex couples: DOMA wrongly bars the federal government from providing any of the over one thousand federal protections to the many thousands of couples who marry in six states. This notion of “neutrality” ignores the fact that while married same-sex couples pay their full share of income and social security taxes, they are prevented by DOMA from receiving the corresponding same benefits that married heterosexual taxpayers receive.

The Gay Community is rightly pissed off.  Andrew Sullivan writes in a piece called “Cut Off The DNC’s Money“:

One way to get the Obama administration’s attention on civil rights is for gay people to stop funding the Democrats. That’s all these people care about anyway when it comes to gays: our money. If the Democrats refuse to support us, refuse to support them…No cheering him at events while he does nothing to follow up on his explicit promises.

And he’s right.  The GLBT Community has been nothing more than an ATM machine for the Democratic Party for decades.  It’s time it stops.  The Dems want Gay Money – The Dems better find a way to do something for the Gays.

From Greg Sargent via Joe.My.God.

The Obama Justice Department has reached out to major gay rights organizations and scheduled a private meeting for next week with the groups, in an apparent effort to smooth over tensions in the wake of the controversy over the administration’s defense in court of the Defense of Marriage Act. Tracy Russo, a spokesperson for Justice, confirmed the meeting to me, after I posted below that top gay rights lawyers were miffed that administration lawyers had rebuffed their requests to meet and discuss ongoing litigation involving DOMA. At the meeting — which hasn’t been announced and is expected to include leading gay rights groups like GLAD and Lambda Legal — both sides are expected to hash out how to proceed with pending DOMA cases.

fruitfly21Let ’em keep reaching.  Next week will mark the 40th Anniversary of Gay Pride when the gay community fought back against the New York Police Department for being treated like third and fourth class citizens.  Let the Democrats get a taste of rejection like we’ve felt for decades now.  When the Democrats realize that the Big Gay ATM machine just got unplugged for a couple of years…They’ll be giving the GLBT Community rebate checks on all of those extra-taxes we’ve been paying that heterosexual couples didn’t have to pay.

Initially, the DOJ decide to ignore the GLBT and refused to meet with them.  Within hours, literally – there was a tenative meeting established between the DOJ, Lambda Legal and GLAD.  Now, before I even get to finish writing this post; House Equality Caucus Vice Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) publishes this piece about the Obama/DOMA Letter:

DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT (DOMA)
There is good and bad news but nothing that can’t or won’t be overcome in time.
The bad news — The Justice Department filed a brief supporting DOMA.  I read it.  First of all, it wasn’t necessary to file a brief at all, especially one that asked for the entire lawsuit to be dismissed.  Very disappointing.  I was unaware that it was coming, as were all of the House members.
The good news – Just this week, the President, in unequivocal terms, called for the repeal of DOMA.  He said, “Among the steps we have not yet taken is to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act.  I believe it’s discriminatory, I think it interferes with states’ rights, and we will work with Congress to overturn it.” Rep.  Jerry Nadler, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, is working on a DOMA repeal bill that he plans to introduce after the July 4th recess.  I’ll be on it.

FruitFly 6Hrmm… When the gays grab their purses and begin beating up the Obama Administration over discrimination and promises made on that stellar campaign trail of his, things start happening mighty quickly, don’t they?!  Pam Spaulding has Schakowsky’s entire letter available.

Casting Out “Homosexual Demons” From A Gay Teenager

According to the Trevor Project, a national non-profit group for the prevention of suicide of gay and lesbian teenagers:

  • In America, more than 32,000 people die by suicide each year (2005 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
  • Suicide is one of the top three causes of death among 15 to 24-year-olds; only accidents and homicide occur more frequently (2006 National Adolescent Health Information).
  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college campuses (2008 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
  • For every completed suicide by a young person, it is estimated that 100 to 200 attempts are made (2003 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Survey).
  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers (Massachusetts 2006 Youth Risk Survey).
  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth who come from a rejecting family are up to nine times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers (2007 San Francisco State University Chavez Center Institute).

Interesting, no? Have you ever wondered why these numbers are so high? I’m glad you asked! It’s because of religious wackos like “Prophetess” McKinney from Manifested Glory Ministries and her alleged exorcising of a “homosexual demon” from a teenage boy within her congregation.

If you’ve managed to avoid projectile vomiting – let’s remember: She calls herself a “prophetess” because she thinks God loves her in that “special way”.  They can call her a “prophetess” but it certainly isn’t what I would call her.

Now–  let’s be honest about a few things here.

  • Do you think that boy will come out of that meeting hoping to make out with a cute girl in his church anytime soon?
  • What about the other teenagers in that congregation who might be gay or lesbian who are watching this?  What do you think is going on inside their heads?
  • Check out the adults – hovering around him. Pinning him down…so they can “cast out this alleged homosexual demon”. Why doesn’t anybody have any pity for the boy?  The adults just stand there, thinking stupid thoughts about whatever their “Prophetess” told them to believe…. “La la la laaa… I’m a dumbass watching  a kid being tortured on the floor and somebody’s holding him down… la la la laaaaaaaaaa….”
  • Does anybody think, after watching that video, that it’s really “Prophetess McKinney” that has a few demons of her own that need to be exorcised?  Better asked: Is she a prophetess or is she simply a fraud?  When I see her yellin’ and screaming all that nonsense, I’m reminded of the characters in Mark Twain’s book Huckleberry Finn: The Duke and the King.  Neither of them are good for anything except making everybody believe they’re special and should be respected.  This “prophetess” is no different:  She good for nothing – but has convinced a handful of dumbbells that there are “homosexual demons” and teenagers are gullibul enough to have contracted one.
  • Lastly; how many teenage girls are going to be interested in dating this young man after all is said and done?  How many girls his age are going to be interested in holding his hand, going to the prom…hanging out with him? Everybody already knows that the boy is gay…Why would she waste her time with him to “make sure he really is straight”?!  The “Prophetess” here has put this teen-boy into a permanent Catch-22 for the rest of his life!

FruitFly 6
This kid has two options: Leave this church and get a grip that he’s gay and that’s all there is to it or…Llive with the horror that God hates him and everybody in that church will look at him as if he’s a freak for the rest of his life.

Of course, there’s always the dreaded third option… Please, give generously to the Trevor Project. (Kudos to Autumn Sandeen for bringing it up.)

Wilted Daisies

Ouch!

After filing a scathing homophic brief regarding DOMA and gay marriage with the US Supreme Court, the Gay Community reacted ferociously: namely – killing a mega-GLBT fund raiser for the Democratic Party scheduled for next week.  (Hint: Vice President Joe Biden was scheduled as keynote…And now the party’s Dead Before Arrival.  HRC Chairman, Joe Solmonese fired back at Obama’s Administration with a ferocious letter by noting Obama’s hypocracy regarding the Gay and Lesbian Community.

Hoping to kill this Queer P.R. nightmare, Obama issues a memo to extend health benefits to some same-sex federal employees.

Now, the blow-back continues as the Obama Administration throws out a second bone by insisting the Census Bureau include gay and lesbian couples in the questionnaire carried around by census employees.

Ann Rostow of the SF Bay Times blasts Obama with:

So thanks for nothing. Obama is the chagrined husband who thinks a bunch of flowers will excuse an infidelity. And to make it worse, instead of roses from the florist, he picks up wilted daisies from the drugstore.

Republicans Love La Raza! Especially La Raza McCain!

According to Republican convicted G Gordon Liddy: “La Raza” is “Illegal Alian” for “The Race”

Ah, from G. Gordon LIddy: The same one who thinks folks in America who willingly should shoot Federal Agents in the head

It makes you wonder: Why are Republicans unpopular?  More importantly: Why do Republicans hate their Republican Party so much more than they hate themselves?!

FruitFly 6When Americans were asked what word came to mind when thinking of the Republican Party, the top answer was “unfavorable,” followed by “conservative,” then followed by “favorable.” The results are not dissimilar to the answers Republicans gave when asked the same question: 21 percent described their party as conservative, while only 14 percent answered “favorable.”

Viva la Republican Whig Party!!  (Hint: The Whig Party is extinct – nobody cares!)
