Hate Crimes Bill: Liar, Liar, Your Pants Are On Fire!

Republicans, you just gotta love ’em for being a bunch of liars.  There’s no truth in anything they’re saying or doing these days.  And the parade of Idiots that march right behind them…

From Joe.My.God. who wants everybody to pull our their Liar Bells and give ’em a good ring everytime you hear them lying about Hate Crimes Legislation:

They’ll finish up the video with Bishop Harry Jackson.  This dude came under fire for voter fraud…This guy can’t be honest with his country – how is he expected to be taken honest with his own fellow citizens.

My favorite line, although there are many: “Hate Crimes lesgislation perverts our laws!” by Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC).

Congress is passing through the Matthew Shepard Act (H.R. 1913 and Sen 909) as an attachment on the annual Defense Department appropriate bill.  The New York Times called this bill as a “It must Pass” Bill. This is a bill that puts hate-crimes against gay and lesbian people under a whole new category of justice in this country.  FruitFly 6Mike Pence (R-IN) and Jim DeMint (R-SC) and the rest of these liars are claiming the bill to be an injustice against their “Christian” religion!  What they’re not telling you is that there is something called  HR 1592 contains a “Rule of Construction”, which protects free speech for pastors who want to spew venom from their pulpits!

I need to take one thing back… “Pants Are On Fire!” is hardly an accurate statement.  Their pants aren’t on fire, they’re laying crumpled at the foot of their mistresses bed!

Dept of Justice Plans Meeting with “The Gays” Next Week

DOJ2After Obama’s Dept of Justice just fired off a letter to the United States Supreme Court trashing gay and lesbian couples over the issue of DOMA, (PDF!) after the Big Gay Fundraiser that the Vice President was intended to preside has all but collapsed.  Now with the call that the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Community get a “divorce” from the Democratic Party – Now… the DOJ wants to meet with us.  Now….there’s a problem and they’ve realized it.

One example in that letter:

…a new and nonsensical argument the administration has advanced suggesting that the federal government needs to be “neutral” with regard to its treatment of married same-sex couples in order to ensure that federal tax money collected from across the country not be used to assist same-sex couples duly married by their home states. There is nothing “neutral” about the federal government’s discriminatory denial of fair treatment to married same-sex couples: DOMA wrongly bars the federal government from providing any of the over one thousand federal protections to the many thousands of couples who marry in six states. This notion of “neutrality” ignores the fact that while married same-sex couples pay their full share of income and social security taxes, they are prevented by DOMA from receiving the corresponding same benefits that married heterosexual taxpayers receive.

The Gay Community is rightly pissed off.  Andrew Sullivan writes in a piece called “Cut Off The DNC’s Money“:

One way to get the Obama administration’s attention on civil rights is for gay people to stop funding the Democrats. That’s all these people care about anyway when it comes to gays: our money. If the Democrats refuse to support us, refuse to support them…No cheering him at events while he does nothing to follow up on his explicit promises.

And he’s right.  The GLBT Community has been nothing more than an ATM machine for the Democratic Party for decades.  It’s time it stops.  The Dems want Gay Money – The Dems better find a way to do something for the Gays.

From Greg Sargent via Joe.My.God.

The Obama Justice Department has reached out to major gay rights organizations and scheduled a private meeting for next week with the groups, in an apparent effort to smooth over tensions in the wake of the controversy over the administration’s defense in court of the Defense of Marriage Act. Tracy Russo, a spokesperson for Justice, confirmed the meeting to me, after I posted below that top gay rights lawyers were miffed that administration lawyers had rebuffed their requests to meet and discuss ongoing litigation involving DOMA. At the meeting — which hasn’t been announced and is expected to include leading gay rights groups like GLAD and Lambda Legal — both sides are expected to hash out how to proceed with pending DOMA cases.

fruitfly21Let ’em keep reaching.  Next week will mark the 40th Anniversary of Gay Pride when the gay community fought back against the New York Police Department for being treated like third and fourth class citizens.  Let the Democrats get a taste of rejection like we’ve felt for decades now.  When the Democrats realize that the Big Gay ATM machine just got unplugged for a couple of years…They’ll be giving the GLBT Community rebate checks on all of those extra-taxes we’ve been paying that heterosexual couples didn’t have to pay.

Initially, the DOJ decide to ignore the GLBT and refused to meet with them.  Within hours, literally – there was a tenative meeting established between the DOJ, Lambda Legal and GLAD.  Now, before I even get to finish writing this post; House Equality Caucus Vice Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) publishes this piece about the Obama/DOMA Letter:

DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT (DOMA)
There is good and bad news but nothing that can’t or won’t be overcome in time.
The bad news — The Justice Department filed a brief supporting DOMA.  I read it.  First of all, it wasn’t necessary to file a brief at all, especially one that asked for the entire lawsuit to be dismissed.  Very disappointing.  I was unaware that it was coming, as were all of the House members.
The good news – Just this week, the President, in unequivocal terms, called for the repeal of DOMA.  He said, “Among the steps we have not yet taken is to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act.  I believe it’s discriminatory, I think it interferes with states’ rights, and we will work with Congress to overturn it.” Rep.  Jerry Nadler, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, is working on a DOMA repeal bill that he plans to introduce after the July 4th recess.  I’ll be on it.

FruitFly 6Hrmm… When the gays grab their purses and begin beating up the Obama Administration over discrimination and promises made on that stellar campaign trail of his, things start happening mighty quickly, don’t they?!  Pam Spaulding has Schakowsky’s entire letter available.

Wilted Daisies

Ouch!

After filing a scathing homophic brief regarding DOMA and gay marriage with the US Supreme Court, the Gay Community reacted ferociously: namely – killing a mega-GLBT fund raiser for the Democratic Party scheduled for next week.  (Hint: Vice President Joe Biden was scheduled as keynote…And now the party’s Dead Before Arrival.  HRC Chairman, Joe Solmonese fired back at Obama’s Administration with a ferocious letter by noting Obama’s hypocracy regarding the Gay and Lesbian Community.

Hoping to kill this Queer P.R. nightmare, Obama issues a memo to extend health benefits to some same-sex federal employees.

Now, the blow-back continues as the Obama Administration throws out a second bone by insisting the Census Bureau include gay and lesbian couples in the questionnaire carried around by census employees.

Ann Rostow of the SF Bay Times blasts Obama with:

So thanks for nothing. Obama is the chagrined husband who thinks a bunch of flowers will excuse an infidelity. And to make it worse, instead of roses from the florist, he picks up wilted daisies from the drugstore.

Gay Marriage, or Just Fat People Who Fail at Dieting?

I believe I had this conversation with my folks about a year ago on the topic of Civil Unions and Gay Marriage.  With their ultra-conservative views on the world, they see the topic as sort of a frolick:  “Gay people chose to be gay and they’re just trying to be trouble-makers for those of us heterosexuals who are serious about our relationships.”

On of the notations I pointed out, among many of course, was the issue of hospitalization.  Many gay couples find their life-partners thrown into Emergency Rooms for whatever reason and the hospital staff simply cuts off access to the partner primarily out of legal issues.

“How’s that?!” My Dad said angrily as the waitress finished refilling his coffee cup.

“The hospital is legally bound to protect its patients, and since the law doesn’t recognize the life-partner as a married spouse, the hospital has no way of validating the claim and they’re not willing to risk it!”

My Dad wasn’t convinced: “Oh bah…  And besides … How often does that happen anyway?  Like… Once every three years?”

From Joe.My.God just the other day:

Kristin Orbin collapsed with an epileptic seizure after marching 14 miles from Selma to Fresno in Saturday’s Meet In The Middle march. Her partner Teresa Rowe was then denied access to Orbin’s hospital room and was not allowed to direct her medical care despite offering to provide documentation that she was entitled to do so.

Orbin said the paramedic told the nurse on duty that she had collapsed after marching 14 miles for civil rights, and the nurse gave her a dirty look and said “ooooh.” She continued, “I asked if Teresa could come back with me, but the nurse told me I was in a no visitor zone. When I asked her why everyone else had visitors, she said ‘those people are different’.” Orbin said she went to sleep at that point, but she was awakened by a nurse giving her the benzodiazapine Ativan, a drug that causes her to have severe migraine headaches. It was then that she discovered just how bad the situation had become. “Teresa was finally able to make her way up to the front desk and convince them to get a cell phone to me. When I talked to her, she said she had told the nursing staff not to give me Ativan, but they refused to listen to her. They refused to take my medical cards from her. They refused Teresa’s offer to have my advance directive and power of attorney faxed over from UCSF.” Orbin said she asked the nurses several times if Rowe could join her, but each time they refused. “They just kept looking at my Marriage Equality shirt and giving me dirty looks,” she said. Orbin and Rowe were not reunited until a doctor intervened a few hours later.

Now, could you imagine that going on in your life?  Your wife collapses in an epileptic seizure and is whisked away to the Emergency Room.  And by the time you arrive, you’re told that you can not go in to see how’s she’s doing.  And when you demand to know why you can’t even though it’s obvious others are allowed in – you’re told; “Because those people are different.

Pam Spaulding, of Pam’s House Blend has two videos on her blog that are worth noting.

Freedom to Marry

Watch for the nuances in this film.  The young woman is writing a letter to her life-partner who has passed away.  Ask yourself while you watch:  Why is there a For Rent sign in front?  Why is she leaving?  She talks about a boy they had together, but he’s now visiting her?

This poor woman, fell in love with another woman who gave birth to their son.  Yet, when her partner passed away, it was her partner’s parents who simply took everything away form her, including her son.  And there’s not a damned thing she can do about it.

Permission

This one makes me smile because it puts the hook right back onto the public’s face.  It doesn’t need an explanation, you’ll figure it out within a few seconds.

Deacon Keith Fournier writes in the Catholic On-line:

“Some maintain that same sex attraction is a genetic predisposition. This is disputed. Even if it were the case, that does not give homosexual activity any more of a claim to being given a special civil rights status. Should we really give disordered appetites civil rights status under the law? Let’s consider an absurd example. I have struggled most of my life with fighting obesity. I am on the ‘winning end’ lately, but just give me another Holiday!

“A very good argument can be made that obesity also has a genetic predisposition. However, I will fight it my whole life because it is unhealthy. It is a disordered appetite. Should we as a Nation decide that fat people have a civil right to be fat? Should those who insist that they resist that ‘genetic predisposition’ to overeat be called Fata-phobic?

The Ting Tings: That's not my nameThe Catholic Church has decided that being gay is the same as being fat?  He could have chosen an attribute like ‘left handed”,  “blue eyed” or “attached earlobes”.  Instead – the Deacon has chosen a health issue as a metaphore to excuse his homophobia. However, coming from the largest non-profit organization that peddles in pedophilia, its no wonder the Catholic Church is diminishing into obscurity in this country.
